Review: My experience with La Mer skincare

Day in a life of Frederique Bos (La Mer beauty treatment)

Well I don’t know about you, but I dislike wearing makeup when I’m at home. My home is supposed to be the place where I feel at ease with myself. And there’s just something about a full face that makes me feel uncomfortable. Thus, chances are if you’re ringing my door bell on a random day, I’ll be welcoming you with a freshly cleansed face. Call it a naked face, I rather call it my happy face. It might sound strange, but especially the process of removing my makeup after a long day gives me such a massive boost of self-love. I view it as if it’s a spa treatment honestly. I just love to have a cup of tea and sit down to say goodbye to the dirt of the day, leaving my face feeling refreshed and hydrated. Yes, my skincare time is my self-loving time and I cherish every minute of it.

As for today’s blog post, I wanted to introduce you guys to a brand I’ve been using for over half a year right now: La Mer. As you might know, I’ve been unlucky to have acne prone skin but the La Mer products helped me wonders balancing it all out. I wouldn’t pin myself down on using one brand for the rest of my life, but I’m almost sure La Mer will always play a big part in my daily skincare routine till the day I die. I know, I know, this might sound dramatic, but once you go La Mer, you never go back. Trust me.

In honor of the iconic skincare line’s newest launch, the Revitalizing Hydrating Serum, they offered me to experience a revitalizing treatment in their spa at De Bijenkorf in Amsterdam. I took my girl Rachel with me to create some awesome content of the treatment I’ve been given. I have to admit I didn’t had much sleep when I’ve arrived that morning. My skin felt so dry and sensitive. This revitalizing treatment came right on time for my dehydrated skin. After discussing my skin concerns, the lovely lady who gave me the treatment started off by cleansing the face with the Cleansing Micellar Water. This powerful sea cleanser micro-emulsifies makeup and sweeps away impurities like 1-2-3, whilst delivering the hydration and soothing my skin really needs.

Other products she used and I loved were the Perfecting Treatment (refines texture and tones), the Treatment Lotion (preps and energized the skin) and the aforementioned Revitalizing Hydrating Serum. This serum with a unique concoction of algae is an absolute dream to apply, it’s intensely moisturizing and truly energizes the skin. I tend to follow this step with a moisturizer but you can just use the serum on its own if you wish. That’s what I’ve been doing for the last couple of months and I’ve been loving it. My skin feels noticeably softer and more supple. It’s a winner in my book and a new essential in my skincare routine. To finish off our beauty treatment, the lady offered me to do my makeup as well. She used the Soft Fluid Long Wear Foundation on me (in a shade 32, beige). As you can see, this foundation has a very natural, glowy and dewy finish. Another great thing is that it has many skincare benefits too, such as SPF 20, La Mer’s signature healing hydration and the La Mer Miracle Broth. Yet another winner for me! Can you tell I’m obsessed?!

Wat zie je er prachtig uit na de behandeling. Lijkt me ook echt heerlijk om een salon behandeling van La Mer te krijgen. Ik heb jaren La Mer gebruikt maar moet toch iets meer op de kleintjes letten. Liefs Claudia

I was lucky to get a box of La Mer samples sizes from a special UK Glossybox last year. The three stand-outs for me were: Treatment Lotion, Revitalizing and/or Hydrating Serum, Eye Cream. However, due to pregnancy, I can only use the Treatment Lotion as the serum and eye cream contain retinol and other no-nos for pregnant women. I found the Sisley eye cream to be a good swap for the La Mer (no retinol) at this time, but will switch back.

For those who don’t have the disposable income to buy a bunch of La Mer, I would recommend the Treatment Lotion or the Eye Cream.
